I grew up in the Little House on the Prairie era, and the Waltons. I loved them both. Saturday morning cartoons were great, and 1 movie night a week to watch a Walt Disney Film was a highlight. Oh, and lawrence Welk with those stupid bubbles lol. I never liked that show. Anyway,
Now days, I'll get interested in a show and then bam, she is slathering all over another she, or some guy plants a big wet one on another. Well, that's it for that show. Now it's ruined.
Personally, life was so simple compared to now. We worked hard, young and old, and we never complained. It was our way of life. I always said that I was born in the wrong year. I would have loved to live as a pioneer.
I cant complain tho, I do what I can to create that kind of life for myself.
Saturday Cartoons - YESSSS My dad loved cartoons and we would watch a few of them, but not hours. One was a professor that claimed he was going to rule the whole world... can't remember
I never saw "Little House", (or any other TV show for that matter), as a youngster. But I have heard favorable references to it for most of my adult life. And of course, my sisters and I read most of the books.
My grandchildren, and now great-grandchildren, have read, and are reading those same books as part of their homeschool program.
I have never read the series. It's kind of neat that Laura Ingalls Wilder is a real person and actually experienced many of the events in the books (and the show). Thanks for checking out my post. :)
I'm two years ahead of you. I like Little House, too... watched it through most of its run. Did you know that was a series of books, by Laura Ingalls Wilder? A REAL family. And my dad's cousin, long since passed, wrote a book about her father's, and his father's, version of "Little House," and it sounds a LOT like this Ingalls family. Yes, good post, and good points about how things have changed, and... why can't our youth have this kind of thing? I've noticed a very CLEAR gap between our generation and ones that have followed, widening as we go along... They need our help!
Interesting info there Word Herder! And yes, why is it that anything to do with tight nit families, who teach character and the difference between right and wrong, good and bad is pretty much non-existent in today's television "programming"? It seems anything new that is put out is loaded with some kind of an agenda. Regardless of what one believes about the "agenda" in these newer shows, isn't entertainment supposed to be entertainment? How dare Netflix, Hulu, and Hollywood be the "beacon" of "truth"! Argh.
You know, it's my understanding that the whole IDEA is to destroy America, because this country USED to be a sort of beacon in the night. Not for a long time, tho, and really, not EVER, fully. But I think it CAN be, if we get up and get on it now...

Rob, I can relate to your experience. I grew up a couple of years ahead of you, in a small farm town, but neighbors were generally much closer. I can remember watching Little House, Waltons, and a handful of other 70's shows (we only had a 13" black and white tv, so it wasn't as appealing as today's 75" OLED telescreens (and we didn't have them watching or listening in on us either...).
Between the ADD generation's impatience, and need for continuous dopamine hits, the wholesome values of hard work, honesty, you get what you've earned, and life isn't fair, but God is, probably wouldn't fair too well on any prime time slot these days.
Enjoy your series binge. It will bring back many memories beyond the show, I'm sure.
Thanks John! Yes, it has been amazing to be watching this almost 50 years later after not seeing it for that long. I don't believe I appreciated the show as much back when I was a pup, and I believe part of the reason is: We were living that kind of life then! And we were happy! I often mention that I think hard times are coming for America (and the world). Though it's going to be rocky, I think hard times would be one of the best things that has happened to America in many decades. When people have to worry more about where their food comes from and keeping their family happy, they end up finding that all of the things they thought were important before didn't matter at all.
Hated that show! HATED IT! Fake goody-goody people. 🤢🤮 There WERE other shows where people were good, got along with others, and weren't any of the things that are on TV these days, AFAIK. I don't watch ANY of the new shows. I watch the shows I grew up with and some later shows that came before people were totally evil.
Haha. I think it's a love it or hate it kind of show. But, since I grew up in a a very similar manner (even without electricity, running water, etc for a time in my childhood) I can attest that much what is in the show really did portray what it was like to live on a homestead on the great plains (to an extent... I get it on the "entertainment" part of the show). The Montana of my youth wasn't anything like it is now. Even the interstate wasn't done when I was a young child. Unless you were in a larger town, roads were not paved. I get what you are saying for sure though Bandit. Thank you for commenting! :)

Beautifully stated. :) Thank you for contributing to the post!
I never grew up watching these shows.
I think we saw a few Andy Griffith.

and also Rocky and Bullwinkle.
My favorite show was MacGyver.
It was a more up to date version of an open and aware jack of all trades who was resourceful.
That's my kind of hero, not these stupid action stars.

"Argh" IS the word, my friend. We know better... There must be some decent stuff! I watch my Harry Potter movies ever once in a while... ;)
I just came across this, again.

BRING BACK DECENCY, yeah.
