I am fortunate to have a healthy body despite some choices I have made along the way. I smoked more cartons of cigarettes by the age of 28 than a lot of people smoke in their lifetime. I have sat in clouds of cannabis smoke for days on end. I got caught up in the crack and cocaine craze for a short stint in my life. I drank numerous liters of wine for 20 years. Man, looking at just these few unhealthy things I’ve been around and involved with, one would think I’d have one foot in the grave by now. But, somehow, I overcame many of the vices of my younger years and decided about 20 years ago that it was time to moderate the bad stuff significantly and increase the good stuff.
I have written previously about things people can do to improve their health and I won’t go down a long list of things again (though I may certainly do so in the future). I won’t re-hash how I stopped all fast food and dining out, and over a few months lost 20 pounds without doing anything else but cooking all of my meals from scratch. I won’t rehash how I threw out all extremely dangerous (though they don’t tell you how dangerous) over the counter drugs and don’t even keep aspirin in my home. I will not rehash how I refuse prescription drugs. No, I will not put you all through that again today. What I do want to touch on again is the importance of keeping sinuses clean and healthy by using a Neti-Pot.
The reason I am going to write a short post about Sinus cleansing is because of a great post I recently read by Fat Rabbit Iron. The post was short and to the point, and I hope he won’t mind if I expound on it just a bit:
I used to have horrific sinus problems. I was constantly taking over the counter drugs for post nasal drip. I had pills to dry up my sinuses and pills to loosen my sinuses. Several times a year I would have sinus infections that would have me going to the “doctor” for a nasty prescription for antibiotics. (Don’t even get me started on how *horrible* antibiotics are, except in the direst emergency).
I got sick of the hamster wheel I was on and searched diligently for a solution that would match the life I was trying to lead after the follies of my younger years and came upon the simple, inexpensive, and easy to use Neti-pot. I gave it a try and literally healed my sinus problems.
The reason I felt the need to expound on Fat Rabbit Iron’s post is because I have discovered a few things that I believe are extremely important if you are going to use a Neti-pot:
I do not recommend using table salt. Table salt can have a lot of garbage in it. If one cannot afford the premixed saline packets the only second option I would use is pure sea salt. Choose the white pure sea salt with no added ingredients whatsoever.
The next important part of using a Neti-pot is the water. If you are going to use tap water, you absolutely must boil it for at least 10 minutes before using it (and let it cool, of course). I still wouldn’t trust it 100 percent because there are a lot of impurities in tap water that cannot be boiled off. What I highly recommend is the best distilled water you can afford. What I have done for many years is make my own pure distilled water using an at home table top distiller. This is the one I use and it has distilled hundreds and hundreds of gallons of water for me over approximately 15 years without a hitch. It has paid for itself several times over. The quality of the water you distill at home (like everything else one does for themselves at home) is above and beyond the crap you get in plastic jugs at the store. I have done a test to see just how “distilled” the water is you get from the store and have ended up with almost as much sediment in my distiller as water right out of the tap. Store bought distilled water is not to be trusted.
If you are using a Neti-pot (or other sinus rinse system) and make sure that the water and the salt are clean and pure, you can absolutely heal your sinuses. Rinsing sinuses upon the first sign of that “sniffle” one gets when you feel a cold or flu coming on can oftentimes (in my experience) stop you from getting sick within a day or two. Combine sinus rinsing with gargling salt water as well and I promise (for most people) it is a game changer when battling the seasonal illnesses that plague most of humanity.
If you deal with seasonal sinus issues and are spending money with big pharma and “big doctor” to try and resolve them, go buy a Neti-pot and give that giant finger to the man. You may find yourself gaining a bit of confidence and independence in a way you never thought possible. You may end up asking yourself how you waited so long to spend 20$.
I am certainly not discounting Fat Rabbit Iron’s excellent recommendation for putting away the pharmaceuticals and buying a Neti-pot, but I wanted to have a bit of input on this as well.
I cannot end one of my posts without reminding my readers that *anything* we do to gain our independence is “living liberty.” Every single time we make a choice that gets us out of the beast system that is doing its best to destroy our lives and (in many cases) kill us we are making a decision to say *no* to “the man.” When we do *anything* at all that makes us more independent I promise, we are making a difference. Turn off the corporate media. Turn off any kind of “entertainment” that is pummeling you with advertising for horrific products that are killing you. Take control of your life and your health. Reclaim your liberty in any way possible.
Remember, “what can we do?” is a question often answered when we look at what we can do in our own lives that takes us out of the control of whatever entity has assumed power over us. It can be as simple as growing a lettuce plant or as complex as walking away from a career that has you towing a line you know is not right. We *do* have much more control over our liberty than we realize.
Thanks for the shout out!
It's both my virtue and my failing to be concise. Thanks for filling in the details for me. :-)
I've never had any problem with my (filtered) tap water and I use pretty high quality salt, but I might get some sea salt and experiment with that. Purer is always better.
Random -- I harvested the seeds from my pepper plants this weekend. I'm looking for a bumper crop next season!
Thanks Rob- I have used a neti pot, sparingly, for years. I have been sick with a nasty sinus infection for over a week, so switching to well-boiled water (also told by my naturopath this out-gasses the fluoride and chloramine) may help.
will also look into the distiller. I have been using pink salt, which I found to be explosion -mined and not-so eco/safe. I recently picked up some sea salt from costco reputed to be hyper clean and mineral rich. I am clearly exuding years of debris at this point.
