I suppose it is a good start to not claim to be a victim of anything. We have all had crappy stuff to endure, some people more than others. We believe God gives us what we can handle but that is a statement up for great argument. We struggle. we suffer.

Remember, there are always plenty of people that have it worse, a lot worse. handicapped people for example. I know many that were born handicapped.... well, wheelchair bound. Cerebral Palsy is very common. Often my daughters and I complain to each other about our huge struggles, they are adults with hubbies and kiddos.

We are just grateful, there are so many that have it worse.

Casting up knee injuries were the only way to immobilize back in the days of olden. I was an ortho surgery nurse with a private practice (no hospital drama for me btdt) We did start out with the plaster casts. then the velcro closure casts came in. they were great. I could go on but yes, we keep going and doing, because if you stop, then you stop.

Great comment Rosemary B. You know, most of the handicapped people I've known in my life are more independent minded than those of us who don't have a handicap! I believe our easy life has made all of us feel like "victims" at one time or another because we haven't had the struggles that many of our ancestors did. I believe a time is coming in which many of those struggles will be upon us once again and people will have to make a choice to be more independent or starve. That sounds scary in a lot of ways, but it would be one of the best things to happen in America in a long time. IMHO. Thanks, as always, for stopping by. :)

I agree with you Rob.

my mother was born in 1923. the first child of her parents.

Tragically? for them, my mom was born without a right hand. Her arm ends just beyond her wrist so she even had a stub that she would manipulate. I loved my mom. She was the most beautiful mom, She was raised no different than any other child in Holland. She could do anything, and she did.

She sewed all of our dresses and coats on a sewing machine, had 4 kids, Oh before she was married to my handsome daddy, she worked for the underground in Holland during the war. Bringing food to Jewish families. She witnessed a lot of horror during the war.

We came to the US for a while in the 60's

She was amazing. I thought all moms only had one hand. She skied iceskated, climbed mountains, made fine lace, she did everything.

Beautiful story. Thank you for sharing it here and providing that incredible example of how we can overcome things and stay independent if we want to. That generation would be ashamed to be "on the dole". There was a time when people were embarrassed to take assistance on the backs of other people. Now, it's almost like people are proud to get Welfare, Food Stamps, Medicaid, Free transportation, etc. In fact, they aren't only proud, they demand and expect these "benefits". My small business has been assisting with a State Medicaid plan for a year and a half now and I've been shocked at what I've learned. People on Medicaid get better benefits than someone with a paid plan through their employer. Anyway, I don't want to give up my independence and liberty to be part of the system. I will resist it until the bitter end! Thanks again Rosemary B!

My mother has a saying that I repeat to myself often. If you rest, you rust. So there you have it. Don't rest too long!

I don't disagree with you. The vast majority of "us" are lazy and spoiled. We want our cake and to eat it, too.

Thanks for stopping by Bandit. Well, if we could get the goodies without being enslaved that would be one thing. But, typically, there are strings attached to all of the "benefits" we get for "free". For my entire life my goal has been to not be beholden to anyone (*especially* government) for my needs. I know we all get old and it gets harder, but even then, if there's a will, there's often a way. I don't want to have to give something up just so I can get something for "free". If SS is still around when I can draw, I will take it because money has been stolen from me to fund that ponzi scheme. But... once they tell me I'll have to get shots and other things to draw it... well, I'll cross they bridge when I come to it. It's scary, the position we have put ourselves in.

I guess I'll either starve or kill myself. I cannot, in all good conscience, take the mark of the beast.

Ditto. Except for the suicide. Haha. As a believer, I'm going to just have to believe that God is going to make a way out. I keep praying for an absolute miracle that destroys all of the evil plans going on. You never know! The monsters are trying to control the collapse of everything we've known. My hope is they will make a grave error and destroy themselves in the process of trying to destroy us. It could happen!

Personally, I work very hard to not ever ask for help. I am 100% diyer. I have taught myself everything I know as an adult from plumbing and electrical, to remodeling and even minor car repairs. I take alot of pride in that independence I have created for myself. I think everyone could aquire the same independence in alot of areas, just by simply trying, or finding someone that could assist and teach them. As a home owner, and doing it all myself, I can only imagine the money saved. Not only does it save money, but you also get to be proud of what you've accomplished.

It sounds like you have chosen a lot of independence for yourself. You are beholden to no one. That is the key. For as long as we are able, we should not have the threat of something being taken away because we chose what seemed like an easy way out at the time but caused us to have to "answer to someone" to continue to receive that help. Thanks for stopping by, and for your great comment. :)

Youtube recently told me that I was paying a plumber $500 for a part that costs $100 and requires about 10 minutes to install. There's no excuse!

Thats insane, and highway robbery. A big nope for me too. There's way too much help we can find on the internet in the form of tutorials etc. No reason to not at least give it a try.
