This is the internet in a nutshell. It's definitely let some obscure voices be heard, but it's also contributed mightily to the hive mind.

Yep. I certainly appreciate those who are out there doing the work. But just because we may agree with some things they say from time to time it sure doesn't mean we can't call them out when they are wrong. I replied to your last post BTW. Don't know if you got it or not. Thanks for your contribution.

I agree. Nobody is infallible, but the hive mind loves to create gods / heroes.

Do you mean that you tried to respond to my chicken post? If so, I didn't get it because I disabled comments.

Yep. No, I replied to the notification email. It depends on how things are set up on your end though I believe. Maybe since you have comments disabled you don't get those either. No worries. It was just a link to some great info I found about gardening, animal husbandry, etc. I hate going off topic in my posts. If someone pays to subscribe to your posts are they able to comment? If so, I might pay the 5$ or whatever for one month.

Oh ok. Yeah, I don't think that works either. You can just email me directly at mxcollins@gmail.com. I'm always interested in learning and discussing more! I love talking to people one on one via email or something like that, but I find that doing it in public never builds the deeper connections that I'm interested in.

Even paid subscribers can't comment. I'm a big believer in the idea that all information should be free, so I don't want to be one of those people who hides access to the author behind a paywall as if I'm some kind of god who must be appeased through monetary sacrifice. All paid subscribers get is the (perhaps dubious) satisfaction of supporting me and keeping substack from going under.

Sounds good. I'll email you. I'll put "Rob D" in the subject line.

"Telling someone to “eff off” because they criticized “your guy/gal” is not THE problem. It is a symptom of a problem. Astute application of the millenniums old 'divide and conquer' strategy has successfully split our society, and perhaps most societies, worldwide, into many, many factions. Each of which seems to have adopted some kind of, "the other guys are insane" approach. To everything.

Do I "like" Trump? Not particularly. He is, or can be, an asshole. But he's been right. A lot! About a few really, really important things. Do I dislike Obummer? Not particularly. But I sure as hell do NOT trust him. Or Clinton. Or, I suppose, any other politician.

Elon Musk is unique only in that he is a rich man, (THE rich man?), who actually DOES something meaningful. Rather than getting rich the old fashioned way, through inheritance, he actually builds things. Cars, spaceships - you know, real, useful things. Oh, and we know who he is. Unlike most of the worlds truly rich folk. Do I "like" him? Not particularly. Do I dislike him. Not really. He simply is. There will always be doers. And extremely rich people.

Do I care what anyone says about any of these people. Or anyone else? Not one f%#$ing bit. Contrary to popular opinion, I know that words are NOT violence.

I feel that it is my right, or perhaps even my duty, to question our lords and masters. As it is theirs to question me. When I am advised that I am "not allowed" to question someone, or something, I know it's time to “Trust God and keep my powder dry”.

Do you need to grow your own food? There is plenty of food on store shelves but if you persist in growing your own then the food logistics gets messed up. Less food will be produced by large corporations to meet the reduced demand and then if you or other individual farmers stop farming or have a bad year then there could be starvation.

So, you don't NEED to grow your own food but for reasons that you have deemed important to you, you WANT to grow your own food.

This is freedom in America. Just because Alex Jones could have adopted a rescue kitty doesn't mean he must or even should. He obviously wanted what he wants and could afford it (at least at the time of purchase).

I would suppose that the criticism you received had very little if anything to do with the cat but with the perception that you were challenging the concepts of personal choice and power.

Possibly. They made such a big deal out of it in some media. I could care less what Alex has or does. As someone who filed BK one time in my life, *everything* is questioned. If it was you or me and we had purchased a 2K$ anything it would be questioned by the BK. The point of my post was that depending on what "side" you are on you must accept everything that person does without question and excuse anything they do that some people would criticize the other "side" for.

Agree completely, Rob. The 21st century media approach, to virtually everything, is to assume that everything is either black, or white. In the real world, there are only infinite shades of gray.

That intellectual sloth has permeated our thinking to the extent that we, as a society, are loosing, (have lost?), our ability to consider alternate points of view. About anything.
