Amen! Sometimes I think that there is a certain generation of people that still have morals, and were raised to abide by them. The generation that got their rear ends whipped. We are the last. I do not worry about myself with all these "cults", but I sure do worry about my grandchildren whom, most now, are not raised with God, or morals, right from wrong, etc. etc. They are being raised in a "robotic" world, not knowing how to count money or read a standard clock. They won't know the difference between fact or fiction. Their expectation is that everything is automated and it is their job to be lazy and served. Everything around them is the "truth", so they will be in lots of these "cults", because it will be all they know. I see now how children, "rule the roost", and what they say goes. It is up to us to educate as many children as we can, and just pray that they go on and make the right decisions. All I can say is Thank God I was born in the 60's.
Brilliant comment. Yes... the young people are being fed lies and told it's the truth. It's a great way to get them to believe in many of these "cults". Parents need to teach write and wrong, good and bad, and, more importantly: How to tell the difference! We have a long road ahead of us. Sigh.
They're always thinking of the past as great glory times, ignoring the horrors of those times.
Nostalgia is strong among many that question the current societal mess and these idiots think as if the past had honest journalism, economics, politics, science etc.
That's another good one. It's a tough one to overcome as well. I know, being 61 yrs old, that it's really easy to look back at "the good old days" and ignore the horrors that took place. I think as humans we tend to gloss over bad things as a way to protect our sanity. Haha. (We can see this right now as the same people who were screaming about lockdowns, shots, etc just a few years ago, all put in place by Trump, not only voted for him, but are *cheering* when he mentions he's going to declare an "emergency" as soon as they are installed! Really??? Have they already forgotten what happened during the last "emergency"?? Or how about all of the other ones before that one?) Seriously though, we must be willing to look at some new ideas and allow young people to have a say. There's some brilliant young people out there who not only love the concept of the US Constitution, but have some amazing ideas on how we could do things better. The nostalgia cult... definitely another one to watch!!!
Cult of vanity, self serving, self absorbed obsession of appearance. Coincidentally involves some of the same cults you called out old friend, like a gym as an example. Some go because they actually want or need to make a physical change for the better, others go only for public trend points. Same vanity that drives clothing, amount of selfies, restaurants they patron, or the objects around them. Here in mining country which you know very well a 10 year basic but reliable F150 XLT won’t do, it must be a Platinum or top trim Bronco, why? Maybe just because they can or hell maybe it was childhood dream, usually it’s looking the part, keeping appearances. Vanity is a race to see who can be the most shallow and becoming bitter and toxic along the way, staring off into the abyss with resting bitch face. The humor imbedded within vanity and equally sad also is we all die, it’s baked into life’s cake so what’s the point of it? To impress others? Why? Vanity has always existed, obviously not a new thing but….social media has made vanity instantly and rewarding and equally destructive.
Good one, Rob. Another big cult is the military cult, or the people who idolize the military. Most of the members feverishly believe that the US military is ''protecting our freedom'' even though that is not nearly the case. They think that other countries are a danger, even though the US is the country that has over 900 military bases around the globe. ''Protecting freedom?'' Those cult members are unreachable, too.
Oh for sure serafino bueti! I'm a veteran, and so I'm allowed to say this insanity of having military bases all over the world for "democracy and freedom" is a CROCK. What a scam. Imagine if all of the military personnel, and the money it takes to keep them in other countries, were all brought home. Billions and billions of dollars and resources would be back in America where it belongs. I know some of these cult members. Sadly, some of them brothers from the military! And then, there are the civilians who have never served who say that we need to have this insane military. They don't understand the difference between military spending and defense spending.
Oh yeah, that one is a doozy and it connects to my comment about nostalgia cults.
One such repeat offender is Scott Ritter, who gets hard every time he talks about war, getting into the stupid details that only obfuscate the obvious thing that all wars are bullshit, whether the "good guys" are doing it or not.
Grrrr. Yeah, these people who have never fought in a war themselves, have never laid in the rain, mud, and cold for *days* pointing a weapon at "the bad guys" (which I did when I served) don't have any problem sending our youth off to fight their ridiculous wars! I don't remember any modern day politician giving up their post in the swamp (DC) to go and fight themselves. If they believe in this crap so thoroughly, they should be the first ones to put on the uniform and go fight. There's a reason war was supposed to be declared as outlined in the US Constitution. We are seeing the results of these monsters finding ways around the constitution now. You know, I have more respect for the crazy American civilians that actually did go to Ukraine to fight than I do for any of these politicians or department heads that sit around a world wide chess board deciding "where we're going next". And, it's not just our government either. These monsters seem to be everywhere. It's just that America has more of them. :)
They used to be at the battles, sometimes fighting in them.
Then they became lazy yet greedy assholes who wanted more and more wars of conquest.
I'm also reminded of Emma Goldman saying that as soon as women get the right to vote, they'll be pro war. She was right, in England, previously anti war women who didn't want their sons and husbands to die started shaming those that didn't want to go to war.
Identity politics is strong with "democracy" and war. It's the trait of humanity that hopefully is becoming a minority.
Good points, c137. Interestingly, the military head of Hamas, Sinwar, according to many reports, actually went down fighting in battle in Rafah! Meanwhile, Miliekowski aka Netanyahoo is bunkered down while his fighting-age son is living the life of luxury in Fla, USA. As for women, there was a time in my life when I thought the world would be better off, safer and peaceful, if mostly women were in charge. But, after seeing the likes of Condoleeza Rice, Madeline Albright, Hillary Clinton, Victoria Nudelman, Nimrata Hailey, and now Elise Stefanik (Trump's UN Ambassador) it's quite clear that women can be as bad as any guy. I totally agree that identity politics is a very negative trait and hopefully one day it will be a thing of the past.
I served also, 70-71, but was extremely fortunate that I missed Nam by a nance. I was armored recon, 11D20, and those poor guys were sitting ducks in those shitbox M113s. I did learn enough then that the military is mostly a scam, and now know that ''all wars are bankers wars,'' Gen Smedley Butler. Trump managed to avoid service, yet people believe he's Mr. Patriot because he talks shit. His cabinet choices reveal he's MIGA. Hesgeth served, but he's a Evangelical Ziofreak who wants to bomb Iran. They all suck, with a few exceptions like T. Massie. I'm so sick of all the BS. It'll be interesting to see what happens if they institute the draft, which they've already laid the groundwork for. Anyway, I could go on and on...... but won't. Thanks for your service, Rob D, and wishing you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving.

Nope, fools.

The cult of vanity. Another good one! Thanks for stopping by! :)

Same corruption happened with kings.
They used to be at the battles, sometimes fighting in them.

A ''doozy.'' Oh yeah, the Duesenberg was a classic American beauty. Now, those were the days!!
