Modern society is extremely conflict averse. People couldn't even endure being yelled at about a mask by a clerk in a store. Rather than face the discomfort, they just submitted. I want to think that people will stand up when it matters, but unless we actively *practice* courage it will fade away.
An answer to your nagging questions is most likely that there are people willing and able to to take the risks, make the sacrifices and risk all they have to secure their God given freedoms. But as it was about two hundred and fifty years ago, those numbers are a small percentage of the population (roughly 3%).
Those men and women are at the cusp, waiting for that last usurpation to nudge that dammed up frustration and forced tolerance over the ice dam, and to flood the lowlands with the destruction that will inevitably follow it. No one knows or can predict what or when it will be, but if the free flow of citizens continues to be held back, it will happen quickly, violently and there will be no turning back.
For now, they know that revolution is more painful, disruptive and deadly than the lashes of tyranny they are patiently enduring.
At some point however, there will either be a restoration of the ideals and principles of this once great country, or there will be bloodshed, destruction and revolution.
Celebrate your independence everyday. Symbology such as flying the flag are important and should not be done simply out of habit. My flag has been stored away for several years now.
Be ever vigilant and wary of government. Be thankful and mindful for the blessings of God. Be gracious to those around you who are treading water in the same lake of discontent.
The youth I saw disregarding masking, social distancing, and living in fear, from the beginning to this most recent holiday were going to the beaches I walk every day, playing together, some trendy game of 4square with a trampoline and bouncy ball, exhibited the freedom we celebrated on 4th of July, as people danced in the closed off Main Street, hugged and shook hands. The spell has definitely worn off, except for a few true believers. So I admire this new generation.
I'm sure there are some men and women like our forefathers and mothers, but I sure don't know any.
