The clock is ticking! We have to ban free speech we don't like to save free speech. We have to ban privately owned companies we don't like to save privately owned companies.
I used to have social media (facebook, instagram and snapchat) but now I got rid of all of it --- don't have it, don't want it, don't need it and don't care for it. I was contemplating creating an alt social media to bolster my Substack reach but ultimately decided against it because "popularity" isn't my thing. To be honest, popularity was part of the reason why I made a Substack other than wanting to make a difference in the world some way, somehow; so, yes I am guilty of wanting popularity, but I saw a while back that "popularity" is not the way to go (especially if I would need to stay "connected" to my electronics 24/7/365).
As far as Tik-Tok, people have made entire careers and businesses off this platform and aside from the nonsense you can find on Tik-Tok (and every other social media platform), search hard enough and I'm sure you can find videos of people doing truly beautiful things and being their best versions of themselves.
So as you said in your article, this nonsense about foreign influence is more bullshit than bullshit itself and, to me, this is really about the "powers-that-(shouldn't)-be" trying to further control any avenues people might use to build themselves and their careers, or destroy them completely if they can't 100% control them.
More power is not going to fix problems and these companies have section 230 protection, like the telecom companies. It's not their business to censor or moderate content. We got laws against harassment, violent threats, sexual abuse etc.
There's one thing that you may not realize though. They keep on promoting that "military age" shit about immigrants.

I agree this banning of TikTok is a slippery slope. The excuses that the clapping congress of seals make are all BS. Why TikTok?? Simple...pressure from the Israeli lobby that owns our gov't officials. TikTok users are exposing the ugly, evil side of the Israelis' occupation and the current genocide. Heck, the IDF (world's most moral military?) troops are blasting TikTok videos of themselves committing war crimes on a regular basis....they don't even try to hide it anymore. The sentiment on TikTok is overwhelmingly favoring the Palestinians and calling for a permanent ceasefire. TikTok doesn't censor this, and that scares the shit out of the ADL, AIPAC, SPLC and the rest, as well as the Israeli gov't. All of them have gotten a free ride by controlling the narrative on MSM and to a large extent on alternative and social media. Now, TikTok is obliterating that facade. When do Congress members act so much in unison, and with such unusual haste? In Biden's recent SOTU address, Republican speaker of the house, Evangelical Mike Johnson, sat down for the entire speech. Except once... when it came to supporting Israel, when he stood and clapped like the rest of the Israel-firsters. That's all you need to know.
This is very tangential, but *stay away from Chinese fish*! I once made the mistake of buying "Pacific" salmon (i.e. from China) instead of "Atlantic" salmon (i.e. from the USA). My joints ached for a week, and I got headaches out of nowhere. They try to sneak it in, so read labels carefully.
Obviously the logical thing to do would be to ban all salmon, right?
Well, this is what the onslaught of TYRANNY looks like. It's been planned and enacted for decades. If we continue to think that our Constitution will save us, then we'd better get off our "smart" (addiction) phones and DO SOMETHING. Just talking, or not even talking, but WRITING about stuff on SS is not gonna cut it.
People are cowards until someone else jumps up and gets the ball rolling... Who will that be? It would be good to have some kind of PLAN... for ACTION...
